The New Forest has a specific bylaw making wild camping (in tent or vehicle) illegal, the Forestry Commission who manage the land and most of the campsites are keen to stop anyone wild camping, to maintain their revenue. If in a tent be sure not to walk past any of the campsites at dusk, or pitch-up during daylight hours. Also every carpark we found south of the New Forest had signs prohibiting sleeping / camping or overnight parking.
This lane is just outside the New Forest boundry and is a quiet residential lane, where you will just look like visitors parking. All the houses have tall hedges, but not suitable if you emit any noise or light.
Sow of Blandin Pub on corner of lane - I had 3 great food experiences and 1 terrible (chefs' night off, I guess, but the manager did not seam to care - despite the waiters continually interupting everybodies meal with 'Is everything OK?' - Why ask?).
