This is probably the best site for finding Free Overnight Aireas and Municipal camping spots in France.

We have just returned from a fantastic 5 weeks in France, we did a few nights wild camping bit wary with having a roaming 3 year old! however someone told us about Passion France which is free camping for 24hours - we will try next time. Also there are lots of wild camping spots around Lac de St Croix, Gorge du Verdon area!
